BIOGRAPHY
Sid Dennis (died July 2024) Comedian, after-dinner speaker and local legend of Skegness
Sid Dennis was born and lived his whole life in Skegness. He grew up in the family scrap metal and recycling business, a firm started by his grandfather in 1884. From early days, he showed a flair for music as he played bass guitar and sang in a local rock band. In 1980, he turned that talent to comedy and after-dinner speaking, carving out a reputation as a warm and quick-witted entertainer.
Alongside his show business life, Sid also dedicated himself to public service. He served as a councillor on East Lindsey District Council and on Skegness Town Council for many years. He led the BID Board in town, contributed to the Chamber of Trade, supported Patient Participation Groups and hospital watch schemes, and was active in the Skegness Twinning Association.
Sid ran the family recycling business while balancing stage commitments. His work brought laughter to rooms big and small, but it was his devotion to his home town that earned him respect. He was also honoured as a member of the Grand Order of Water Rats, a mark of standing in the entertainment world.
In July 2024, Sid Dennis passed away. He left behind his wife Marie, to whom he had been married for over 45 years, their two sons and three granddaughters. He is remembered as a generous and energetic character who never stopped championing Skegness and who always brought joy both onstage and off.
