BIOGRAPHY
Anthony Bygraves, beloved son of the legendary Max Bygraves, was a true entertainer, a man who upheld the values of variety with warmth, professionalism and quiet confidence.
Born on 22 February 1947, Anthony grew up surrounded by the rhythms of show business. From a young age, he was immersed in music, performance and theatre, and it wasn’t long before he carved out a path of his own in the world of entertainment.
As a performer, Anthony appeared on stage and screen, with early acting credits including Charley Moon (1956) and Maroc 7 (1967). He later featured in the documentary Max Bygraves: 50 Golden Years, celebrating the legacy of his father while contributing to it in his own right. Anthony was also a talented singer and songwriter, and continued to perform well into later life, charming audiences with his gentle style, easy vocals and connection to the golden age of entertainment.
In addition to performing, Anthony worked as a producer and writer, organising and supporting several variety and charity shows. He was especially active in honouring the legacy of traditional British entertainment, taking great pride in preserving the spirit of the music hall and variety circuit. He served as an Ambassador-at-Large for Variety, the Children’s Charity, dedicating time and effort to causes that supported children and fellow entertainers alike.
Anthony Bygraves wasn’t just the son of a star; he was a class act in his own right. Thoughtful, kind, and quietly driven, he carried the Bygraves name with dignity and pride. His work on and off the stage reflected a deep love for the business and the people in it.
Though the final curtain has fallen, the applause remains. Anthony Bygraves will always be remembered, not only for his family name, but for the joy, respect and kindness he brought to every performance.
