With much sadness we must announce the passing of Bob, a dedicated and highly active member of the GOWR, who died peacefully in his sleep, at home, in the early hours of April 14th. 2023.

Bob started out in showbusiness as a drummer with his own band just after World War 2, but he soon progressed to becoming a booker with his own successful agency.

With an astute business brain, and a flair for entertainment, he built up quite an empire, culminating in the opening, in 1972, of his own club, the renowned Lakeside which soon became one of the UK’s top venues for star cabaret, winning many awards year after year.

His many interests expanded into the opening of hotels and numerous other ventures.

Apart from his constant support for all GOWR activities, Bob, alongside his close friend Com of Hr. John Ratcliff CBE, was the driving force behind the rebuilding of our present headquarters, culminating in the grand home we occupy today.
