TONY BARTON - PAST TRAP GUARD

BIOGRAPHY

Tony grew up in Beverley, Yorkshire, and began performing in pop groups while apprenticing as a carpenter. After completing his apprenticeship, he pursued a career in show business, forming the double act The Barton Brothers. They toured with major 1960s stars, including The Everly Brothers, Roy Orbison, and Tom Jones.

After appearing on Opportunity Knocks and finishing second, Tony moved to London to pursue a solo career in comedy and music. He trained with Barbara Andrews (Julie Andrews’ mother) and performed on the cabaret circuit alongside future stars like Jim Davidson and Michael Barrymore. He later landed roles in TV dramas such as Grange Hill and Minder and appeared in commercials, including The Olympus Trip with David Bailey.

In 1982, Tony was cast in a beer commercial, which became a 10-year campaign filmed in exotic locations, winning awards for best performance and funniest script. In 1986, he starred in his own Thames TV sketch show and later appeared in Emmerdale, Coronation Street, Heartbeat, and Cracker.
During the 2000s, he featured in Hollyoaks, Two Pints of Lager, and Last of the Summer Wine. He remains active in TV, advertising, and pantomime.

Recent Credits include "Man Down" with Rik Mayall and Greg Davis
