
BIOGRAPHY
Peter Polycarpou is a British actor with a long and respected career across stage, screen and voice work. Born in Brighton in 1957 to a Greek-Cypriot family, Peter trained at Middlesex Polytechnic and went on to become one of the West End’s most versatile performers.
He was part of the original 1985 cast of Les Misérables, playing Jean Prouvaire, later returning to take on the roles of Grantaire and Thénardier. His musical theatre credits are extensive and include lead roles in Miss Saigon, Phantom of the Opera, Oklahoma, The Secret Garden, Sweeney Todd, City of Angels and Man of La Mancha.
Peter is also known for his television work, most notably as Chris Theodopolopodous in the classic sitcom Birds of a Feather. His other TV credits include EastEnders, Holby City, Waking the Dead, Casualty and Midsomer Murders. On film, he has appeared in Evita, De-Lovely and Cleanskin opposite Sean Bean.
As a voice artist, Peter has worked on major video game titles including Assassin’s Creed Origins, Diablo IV, Immortals Fenyx Rising and the Harry Potter series. His voice has become a recognisable presence across gaming, animation and audio drama.
In 2017, he received an Olivier nomination for his performance in Oslo at the National Theatre and in the West End. Recent stage roles include performances in The Band’s Visit, Indecent and The Choir.
Offstage, Peter is also a playwright, with works including Searching for the Lemons, exploring the experience of UK Cypriots. He teaches drama, mentors young performers, and sits on the board of The Royal Theatrical Fund. He is also a patron of the UK Thalassaemia Society.
Still actively performing and creating, Peter Polycarpou remains a dedicated figure in British theatre and entertainment, with a career spanning more than four decades.
