
BIOGRAPHY
A versatile figure in the music industry, Mike began his career in 1962 as a backing vocalist and recorded his first single for Embassy Records. Over the next few years, he released 28 singles on the label. During the 1960s, Mike was chosen to understudy Frank Sinatra on a Tony Hatch-produced record, although it was never released. In 1967, he was approached by Burt Bacharach to perform vocals on the song Have No Fear, James Bond is Here, which appeared in the credit roll of the 1967 spoof film Casino Royale.
In addition to his work as a performer, Mike co-wrote the German No. 1 hit Du Kannst Nicht Immer Siebzehn (“You Can’t Always Be Seventeen”) and produced Terry Wogan’s The Floral Dance, which reached No. 21 in 1978. He also competed twice to represent the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest, finishing third in 1975 with The House Runs On Sunshine and joint last in 1985 with So Do I.
Mike’s extensive career also includes composing the theme music for the children’s TV show Charlie Chalk, founding Redrock Music Ltd in 1973, and writing music for the 2016 musical Seriously Dead. He continued to innovate, launching Redrock Production Music in 2019, and contributing to the musical adaptation of The Cinder Path. Mike is also a past Deputy Musical Rat.
