Michael Crawford is one of Britain’s most celebrated and versatile performers, with a career that has spanned stage, screen and song for over six decades. Known around the world for his iconic role as Frank Spencer in the much-loved sitcom Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em, Michael showed that behind the clumsy exterior was a performer of serious talent and impeccable timing.
His career took a legendary turn when he originated the role of The Phantom in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera, earning international acclaim and a string of awards, including the Olivier and Tony. His powerful voice and emotional depth made the Phantom a global phenomenon and solidified Michael’s place as a true musical theatre great.
But the range didn’t stop there. From leading roles in Barnum, Hello, Dolly!, and The Go-Between, to his work in film, opera, and radio, Michael has consistently proven his ability to move, entertain and astonish. He has performed for royalty, toured internationally, and remains one of the most recognisable and beloved figures in British entertainment.
Offstage, he has given tirelessly to charity, particularly through his work with the Sick Children’s Trust, and was awarded a CBE for services to drama and charity.
As an Water Rat, Michael Crawford represents everything the fraternity holds dear – talent, dedication, kindness, and a lifetime devoted to the art of making people smile.
