BIOGRAPHY
Ian Richards is a seasoned comedian and professional entertainer whose career spans nearly five decades. From his early days on the clubland stages of the late 1970s, including seaside seasons in Scarborough, Bridlington, Great Yarmouth, Jersey, the Isle of Wight and Cromer, he has built a strong reputation as one of the UK’s most respected performers.
A specialist in the after-dinner and corporate circuit, Ian is a first choice for blue-chip companies and event organisers across the world. His clients include major names such as Sennheiser, Virgin, DAS Insurance, Tesco, Volvo Trucks and Kent Cricket League. He has performed at countless sports-related functions and testimonial events, sharing stages with the likes of Sir Bobby Charlton, Frank Bruno, Barry McGuigan, Gareth Edwards and Jack Charlton. In 1996, Ian was chosen to host Euro 96 hospitality events at Villa Park, Hillsborough, Old Trafford and Wembley. He also compered the Boys of ’66 theatre tour reunion dinner.
Ian has a long-standing connection with the Armed Forces, having entertained British military personnel over 500 times across the UK and overseas. He is also a popular figure on the golf circuit, both as a speaker and as a player, often taking part in the day’s rounds before delivering his trademark comedy and insight at evening events.
With a distinctive baritone voice, Ian has also worked extensively as a voice-over artist and is in high demand as a charity auctioneer and master of ceremonies. His ability to read a room, tailor his material, and deliver every time with warmth and professionalism makes him a trusted name in the industry.
A proud member of the Grand Order of Water Rats, Ian served as King Rat for two consecutive years in 2016 and 2017, a mark of the high esteem in which he is held by his fellow performers and his commitment to the charitable heart of the Order.
