GORDON GILTRAP - BLUE COLLAR RAT

BIOGRAPHY

Gordon Giltrap is one of the UK’s most respected and influential acoustic guitarists, celebrated for his unique playing style, emotive compositions and decades of contributions to British music.

Emerging onto the folk scene in the 1960s, Gordon quickly carved out his path, blending classical, folk, rock and contemporary influences into a distinctive sound that’s earned him international acclaim. His landmark 1978 album
Perilous Journey, featuring the hit single Heartsong, brought his instrumental mastery to a wider audience and became a staple of music television. Heartsong itself became known to millions as the theme to the BBC’s Holiday programme.

Over the years, Gordon has released more than 30 albums, collaborated with a wide range of artists including Rick Wakeman, Brian May, Midge Ure, Cliff Richard and Steve Howe, and performed everywhere from intimate clubs to major concert halls and festivals around the world.

Renowned for his intricate fingerstyle technique and innovative guitar tunings, Gordon has also been involved in education and mentoring, sharing his knowledge with the next generation of musicians. His signature guitars, developed with respected luthiers, are a testament to his dedication to the craft.

A true ambassador for British instrumental music, Gordon was appointed MBE in 2019 for services to music and charity. He continues to perform, record and inspire with the same passion that’s defined his career for over five decades.

As a proud member of the Grand Order of Water Rats, Gordon brings not only his extraordinary musical talent but also his warmth, generosity and enduring love for entertainment and community.
