Gary Starr is a British actor, playwright, director, and producer whose career in live entertainment spans over two decades. As the creative force behind Gary Starr Creative and the driving passion behind Neverland Theatre in Skegness, Gary is known for his originality, immersive storytelling, and commitment to making theatre accessible to all.
A Life in Theatre
Gary’s journey into theatre began with a deep love for storytelling and performance, which evolved into a multi-faceted career across the UK stage. He has performed, directed, and written for hundreds of productions, including pantomimes, original plays, scare attractions, and immersive shows. He is the creator of the award-winning horror attraction Ravenous, which won Best Scare Experience 2024 at ScareCON, and the psychological horror play Tales in the Darkness, which is currently touring theatres across the UK.
Gary Starr Creative & Neverland Theatre
In 2015, Gary founded Gary Starr Creative, an entertainment company that produces touring shows, pantomimes, digital content, and live attractions. Through this venture, he has brought professional-level productions to schools, theatres, wildlife parks, and theme parks nationwide. In 2014, Gary created his own 96-seat Theatre in Skegness, Neverland, creating a hub for affordable, high-quality theatre for the community.
Master of Horror & Immersive Entertainment
Gary has a particular passion for horror theatre, designing innovative and immersive scare attractions, including 9 Circles, Ravenous, and SNAP for Fear Island in partnership with Fantasy Island. His unique approach to fear is theatrical, psychological, and often darkly comic, creating experiences that are both memorable and emotionally resonant.
Passionate About People and Animals
Gary’s work is grounded in empathy and creativity. He is deeply involved in community and charity efforts, supporting causes through theatre while dreaming of establishing a husky rescue sanctuary. He shares his life with his beloved huskies, Falcor, Nanook (also known as Nana), Ghost, and Venom, affectionately referred to as the “wolfpack.”
Freemasonry & The Grand Order of Water Rats
Gary is an active Freemason and a proud member of the Grand Order of Water Rats, a historic fraternity and charity in the show business industry. He contributes creatively and administratively to the Order, including spearheading the modernisation of its website and preserving its rich theatrical heritage.
Creative Vision
Whether staging a musical, building a horror maze, writing a play, or crafting a promo campaign, Gary is a creator in every sense. He believes in creating magic from limited resources, choosing passion and innovation over spectacle for its own sake. His philosophy? “Find empathy, love and laugh as much as you can and never take life too seriously, you’ll never get out alive.”
Gary Starr continues to redefine independent theatre and immersive entertainment, bringing joy, fear, and wonder to audiences with originality, integrity, and heart.
